“We are building a structure for the future not just a team of all stars” - Sheikh Mansour
1. is Passionate
“One person with passion is better than forty people merely interested.”
E. M. Forster
This is an individual that is enthusiastic and loves all aspects of soccer. He’s excited to go to training and will even train on his own because of his love towards the game. This person can always be counted on to play a pick up game with or to help train with you.
2. is Responsible
“The right thing to do and the hard thing to do are usually the same.”
This is an individual that can be counted on to do the right thing. He can be counted on to not leave a mess, to let his coach or teammates know if he can’t attend team activities (even in the summer), and always communicates any issues or concerns. This is a player who will show up to practice and not only take part in rondos but even get them started. He will take the blame if it was his fault, be responsible for his actions, and can be relied on to meet standards.
3. is Courageous
“Don’t fear failure… in great attempts it is glorious even to fail.”
You have to be a risk taker. This is a player that will stick to the game plan even if he might fail in doing so. An individual that is not afraid to stand up for a teammate and speak out if something is not being done right. But he will also speak out to a teammates if he’s not doing something right or is breaking our core values.
4. has a Growth-Mindset
“A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life.”
This is someone that understands mistakes are part of growth, and he does not talk negatively to his teammates on the field after they’ve made a mistake. This is a player that understands there’s always room to get better and improve both as a player and as a person. This is a player that helps his teammates on the field if they are struggling and encourages them to do better.
5. Doesn’t Make Excuses (doesn’t whine)
“The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.”
There’s always an excuse or a reason not to do something. This is a player that will figure out a way to make it work and not hide behind excuses.
“No man is really defeated unless he is discouraged.”
Nothing can keep this person down. Whether it was after making a big mistake in a game or a seeing someone else go through a rough time, this individual is always positive and understands that it will get better.
“The high road is always respected. Honesty and integrity are always rewarded.”
This individual is honest when making a mistake, missing training or any other occasion… Owning up to a mistake or telling a truthful and honest reason to something is always more admired than lying. He will fall on the sword if he has to.
“Respect is a two-way street, if you want to get it, you’ve got to give it.”
This is a player that respects his teammates, coaches, opponents, referees, the program, and our core values.
9. Works Hard
“Hard work may not always result in success, but it will never result in regret”
An individual that works hard regardless of what he thinks the outcome will be. This is an individual that always tries his best and will put in the same work his freshman year as he would his senior year. A player that will work hard on his own when no one is around.
“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.”
This is a player that has shown great commitment. A player that plays in the winter, spring, and shows up to summer activities to become better.
“People who care about each other enjoy doing things for one another. They don’t consider it servitude.”
A player that cares about the wellbeing of his teammates and goes out of his way to offer a helping hand. This is someone that willingly gives up their time to help others and volunteers to give back to the community.
12. believes in Teamwork
“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.”
An individual that works with his teammates towards a common goal. He has faith in the game plan, the team philosophy, and plays selflessly. This is player that would give up a decent shooting opportunity for a teammate who’s in a better position. This is a player who will cover his teammates position if they are too tired and fatigued to run back. This person can always be counted on for doing his job as a teammate on and off the field.
